Central Java Police officers reveal illegal online firearms business

Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Condro Kirono confirmed that police officers had seized organic firearms and replicas of various types of airsoft guns in an operation to curb the illegal firearms business.

“The disclosure started from a shipment of firearms and bullets in Surakarta,” he said in Semarang on Monday as quoted by Antaranews.com.

The police officers seized a High Standard Derringer DM-101 pocket gun and 10 bullets from a suspect identified as ES, 33, a Sukoharjo resident, who bought the weapon from a Cirebon resident with identified as RH, 44.

RH is an illegal firearms retailer who get his goods from another suspect, P, 30, a Jakarta resident.

Condro said that customers ordered the guns online and paid with bank transfers.

He also said that the illegal gun sellers had modified the airsoft guns to make them suitable for standard bullets.

The illegal guns were sold at a variety of prices.

“The pen gun type is sold Rp 1.5 million per unit, meanwhile the assembled guns are sold for Rp 20 million per unit,” Condro said.

For legally produced weapon type Glock, the seller can get Rp 70 million per unit, while Makarov weapon sell for Rp 120 million per unit.

The police are still looking for the source of the illegal guns.

“We are also currently looking for information about whether the guns have been used for crimes,” Condro said. (ecn)
