The police have arrested nine people for carrying sharp weapons in East Jakarta.
East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Andry Wibowo said on Wednesday that the Rajawali task force caught the people during a patrol to rid the area of gangs, motorcycle road races and other street crimes late Saturday evening.
The task force was formed to fight street crime.
“During the operation, we caught youth carrying sharp weapons intended for criminal activities,” Andry said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.
The team members checked groups of youth in their patrol area and found weapons on nine of them. They were aged between 16 and 30.
The police also seized five unregistered motorcycles, seven mobile phones and a wallet, Andry said.
The nine people are currently in custody at the East Jakarta Police headquarters for investigation. (agn)
