29-year-old fisherman was found dead, hanging from a tree in the Pluit Reservoir Park in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Friday morning. He reportedly committed suicide because of depression.

The head of the Penjaringan Police's criminal investigation unit, Comr. Rahmat Sudjatmiko, said the man from Ogan Komering Ilir regency in Palembang came to the capital city to find steady work, but to no avail.

“According to the victim’s family in Palembang, the victim just arrived in Jakarta to find a permanent job,” Rahmat said as quoted by tribunnews.com. “He was depressed because he failed to find one,” he added.

The park’s janitors, Sutopo, 50, Oding, 45, and Ismail, 45, were the first ones to find the body when they were cleaning the grounds at about 6 a.m.

“I was cleaning up garbage near the tree when my back touched the victim’s feet. When I turned around [and saw the body], I felt shocked,” Sutopo said. He then called his two colleagues over. They reported the discovery to a nearby police station.

The body is currently at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta for an autopsy. (vny)
