he Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday sentenced former Banten governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah to 5.5 years in prison for her role in a graft case surrounding medical equipment procurement in 2012.
The Golkar politician was found guilty of misusing funds for Banten’s health agency in the 2012 Regional Budget and the 2012 Revised Regional Budget, causing Rp 79.7 billion (US$6 million) in state losses.
The judges also ordered the defendant to pay a Rp 250 million fine or serve an additional six months in prison.
Atut told the court she accepted the verdict. She was indicted along with her younger brother Tubagus Chaeri Wardana, who was accused of directly appointing the companies to carry out the project.
Ratu Atut is now serving a seven-year prison term for bribing then Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar in 2013.
