ailway Director General Prasetyo Boeditjahjono has become the latest official at the Transportation Ministry to be removed from office in what the ministry describes as an overhaul of its bureaucracy.
"We want to refresh [the organization]. We want to give somebody else the opportunity to manage [the railways]," said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi after announcing the decision on Friday.
Budi said the move was part of the revitalization effort in the railway sector, including with regard to investment and research. Indonesia is currently working on massive railways projects, such as the revitalization of a railway connecting Jakarta and Surabaya and the US$6 billion Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway.
Prasetyo was installed in May 2016. The ministry has yet to announce who will replace him. "We will announce it within one or two days," Budi said. (ags)
