T

he Jakarta administration is now studying a proposal submitted by a developer of the Jakarta Bay reclamation project to develop a bridge connecting Islet C, which the company is developing, to Dadap village in Banten.

Jakarta Spatial Planning Agency head Gamal Sinurat said the administration welcomed the plan submitted by PT Kapuk Naga Indah, a subsidiary of PT Agung Sedayu Group, saying the bridge might benefit Jakarta and Banten both.

"The bridge will open access for transportation between the two regions, so it will surely boost their economies," Gamal said at his office on Tuesday.

The bridge would also open access to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, he said.

Gamal said the development would only be feasible with the renewed deliberation of the reclamation bylaws, which had been halted last year by the City Council.

The decision regarding the continuation of the Jakarta Bay project would also determine the bridge's development, he added.

Jakarta governor-elect Anies Baswedan and his deputy Sandiaga Uno reiterated throughout their election campaign that they would stop the reclamation project.

Earlier on Friday, acting Jakarta governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat expressed his support for the bridge development plan.

"If [Islet C and Dadap are connected], it will be beautiful. It will also be helpful for the people who want to get to the airport," Djarot said.

He added that the Banten administration had issued the description of the highway axis, so it was the capital's turn to issue the plan.
