Indonesian, Malaysian firms still discuss power plant construction

tate-owned coal miner PT Bukit Asam, state-owned electricity firm PT PLN and Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Berhad are still discussing their plan to construct a mine-mouth power plant in Peranap, Riau, the agreement for which was signed in 2012.
“Several technical things are being discussed by the three companies, including pricing and electricity transmission,” said Bukit Asam president director Arviyan Arifin during a public expose at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the three companies in October 2012.
Initially, the power plant was targeted for construction in 2017.
"Our MoU is still on and we are working on this project," Arviyan said.
The Peranap power plant will have a capacity of 2x300 megawatts and Bukit Asam will supply 4 million tons of coal per year.
According to the plan, the power plant will be connected with a sea cable under the Malacca Straits to supply electricity to Malaysia. (bbn)
