hese are some of the developments we're watching today:

  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi during his current Southeast Asian tour. Lavrov is also scheduled to officially open Russia's permanent mission to ASEAN.
  • US President Donald Trump is ratcheting up regional tensions by warning the North Korean regime that he would unleash "fire and fury like the world has never seen" in response to a possible attack on the US. Meanwhile, North Korea has threatened to attack the US airbase on the Pacific island of Guam, which could provoke an "all-out war".
  • Vice President Jusuf Kalla and a number of ministers in President Joko Widodo's cabinet will lay out details on how the government will address growing inequality at the Indonesia Development Forum.
