A number of women and children of Indian decent conducted a Bollywood flash dance on the Jl. Sudirman and M.H. Thamrin streets on Aug. 6 in conjunction with the Jakarta car free day, during which both streets are closed to all private cars.
In total, the 13-minute flash mob featured 22 ladies and seven children, who performed several popular Bollywood movements and songs for hundreds of Jakartans who flocked to watch the spectacle. The dance, choreographed by Gayatri Madugula, sought to showcase the rich culture of Bollywood and the Jakarta car free day, which is attended by thousands of people every Sunday, was seen as the perfect platform to do it.
“Dance [as an art form] has always inspired me to showcase the many aspects of Bollywood culture to Jakartans who already love Bollywood music,” Madugula said.
“I would say that we are proud to have had the Indian Bollywood dance in conjunction with the Jakarta car free day. It’s great that so many people came in their droves to watch one of the freshest presentations during car free day ever,” said M. Reza Irawan, an attendant of the event as well as the chief editor of infocarfreeday.net, an online portal dedicated to listing events that are organized during car free days across Indonesia.
