he Jakarta Police traffic directorate is stepping up its attempts to discipline errant motorcyclists in the capital by carrying out more raids against traffic violators, a police officer has said.
The operation, called Lintas Jaya, will be carried out at certain spots deemed to be prone to traffic violations, such as on Jl. Abdul Muis and Jl. Cideng in Central Jakarta, and on Jl. Tanjung Duren Raya in West Jakarta, Jakarta Police traffic director Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto.
“We are targeting those who violate rules by riding on sidewalks, driving counter to the traffic and on overpasses,” he said on Monday as quoted by Tempo.co. He added that most motorcyclists found to be driving against the flow were on Jl. Lt. Gen. Suprapto in Central Jakarta and on Jl. Kalibata, South Jakarta.
He said that police personnel would be deployed at the Casablanca elevated road in South Jakarta to ticket motorcyclists using the road.
“The operation has been ongoing for the past month and we are intensifying it,” Budiyanto said. (fac)
