Commuter line operator KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (KCJ) is offering free rail journeys to mark Independence Day on Aug. 17.
The free trips will apply for all passengers using either multi trip cards (KMT) or daily tickets (THB) throughout the day. A similar promotion was held in 2015.
“We encourage people to enjoy the train service. It is free, but they should still follow the prevailing rules and maintain order inside the trains and the stations,” said KCJ operational and marketing director Subakir in a statement on Tuesday.
There are a few conditions, passengers using a KMT should have a minimum balance of Rp 13,000 (97 US cents) and those using the THB are still required to pay a refundable guarantee of Rp 10,000 for the card.
Passengers who do not follow the rules will be required to pay fines as usual.
Apart from that, Subakir said, KCJ will also hold other events to celebrate Indonesia’s 72nd Independence Day, such as a photography competitions via Instagram, using commuter trains and historic Tanjung Priok Station as themes.
On Aug. 17, a costume event will be held for passengers dressing as national heroes along with typical Independence Day competitions at Tanjung Priok Station.
