he odd-even traffic policy will come into effect for the Cikampek toll road next Tuesday and to support the program, park-and-ride facilities will be made available in Bekasi, West Java, an official has confirmed.
“This park-and-ride [facility] will use empty plots of land. We have coordinated with several mall and stadium managements in Bekasi,” said Bambang Prihartono, head of the Greater Jakarta Transportation Body (BPTJ), as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.
Bambang said that amid worsening congestion on the toll road, which is caused by prolonged road overcapacity coupled with construction of infrastructure projects, officials had to apply the odd-even policy.
With the regulation, vehicles bearing a license plate number ending with an odd digit are allowed to use the toll road only on odd dates, while those with plates ending with an even digit can only pass on even dates.
The policy will only be applied to drivers entering from the Tambun, West Bekasi, East Bekasi and Jatibening toll gates heading to Jakarta. It will not affect those traveling from Bandung or Cirebon, West Java.
To make the program a success, BPTJ is teaming up with Bekasi administration to provide parking facilities in Bekasi, in which drivers can park their vehicles before continuing their trips to Jakarta, said Bambang.
The odd-even policy has previously been applied by the Jakarta administration in several main roads in the capital, including Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta. (agn/wit)
