T

he Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, mayor-elect, Adriatma Dwi Putra, 28, answered a Jakarta Police summons on Friday, following a report --made by a model, Destiya “Destiara Talita” Purna Panca, which accused him of defaming her.

Destiara, who claimed to be Adriatma’s girlfriend since 2016, reported him to the police on Aug. 8 for insulting her after she urged him to marry her.

Destiara told police Adriatma had promised to engage in a nikah siri (unregistered Islamic marriage) with her, which he then decided against before insulting her in a phone conversation.

Adriatma, who went to the Jakarta Police headquarters with his wife and lawyers, denied Destiara’s accusation, saying he only met her in June.

“I’m not really close to her, I’ve only known her since June,” Adriatma said as quoted by kompas.com.

The National Awakening Party (PAN) politician said he had no idea why Destiara reported him.

“I know nothing about it. I’m going to clarify it as the report was just filed last week,” he said. (cal)
