he Chinese Embassy in Jakarta handed over admission letters to scholarship recipients during an event on Monday that also served as a farewell ceremony.
More than 600 students applied for the scholarships before 215 were selected in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels, as well as in non-degree programs, the embassy said in a media statement.
“The students will study from one year to four years and some of them even up to five years,” the statement said.
“They will enroll at Peking University, Tsinghua University, Xiamen University and many other renowned universities in China.”
The Chinese Embassy’s chargé d’affaires, Sun Weide, said the Indonesian students would study various courses such as Mandarin education, law, medicine, civil engineering and arts and culture.
Sun said in his speech that currently there are 14,000 Indonesians studying in China, which has become the second most popular destination for Indonesians to study abroad. “The number of Chinese students furthering their study in Indonesia is also increasing every year,” he said as quoted by the statement.
