ndonesia is hosting a week-long test event for the 2018 Asian Games from Monday to Sunday in Cibubur, Jakarta.
The event, titled the seventh Women’s Youth Handball Asian Championship, is being held at the POPKI sports hall. The event features participants from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Uzbekistan.
The Cibubur competition is the third test event after the Asian triathlon championship in Palembang, South Sumatra, and the Asian paragliding cross-country championship, to be held this year ahead of the 2018 games.
“The third test event shows that Indonesia continues its preparations ahead of the games,” Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) chief Erick Thohir said in a statement.
In 2018, the POPKI hall will be the home for handball. Sixteen countries will compete in the men’s category and 12 in the women’s category. Indonesia will host its second Asian Games next year in Jakarta and Palembang. The country first hosted the games in 1962.
