Greater Jakarta: No motorcycle ban on Jl. Rasuna Said

T

he Jakarta Transportation Agency gave an assurance on Tuesday that motorcycles will still be allowed to use Jl. Rasuna Said in South Jakarta.

“Only the odd-even license traffic policy will be applied on Jl Rasuna Said, not a motorcycle ban. Don’t worry,” agency head Andri Yansyah said at City Hall on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Andri was responding to rumors that motorcycles would be banned from Jl. Rasuna Said.

A trial run for the odd-even policy on Jl. Rasuna Said will commence on Sept. 12, the same day as the implementation of a motorcycle ban from Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat to the Senayan traffic circle.

However, the implementation of the odd-even policy on Jl. Rasuna Said will require further discussion, Andri added.

The Jakarta administration plans to expand its ban on motorcycles from using the city’s thoroughfares to reduce traffic congestion. Motorcycles have been banned from Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle since December 2014.
