The State Palace said on Wednesday that Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa had not resigned from President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's Cabinet to run in the East Java gubernatorial election.

Presidential spokesperson Johan Budi said on Wednesday that Jokowi had yet to receive a letter from Khofifah regarding her plan to leave the Cabinet.

"If you’re wondering about a resignation letter, we haven't received one yet. At least until today," Johan said as quoted by tempo.co

Khofifah visited the palace on Wednesday and when pressed by a reporter about her plan to run in the East Java election, the social affairs minister said she did not have plan to join the race.

The minister said she would make an official announcement if President Jokowi gave her the blessing to join the gubernatorial race.

Johan confirmed that Khofifah did meet with Jokowi on Wednesday but declined to give details about their conversation.

It has been predicted that Khofifah could become a formidable rival to East Java deputy governor Saifullah Yusuf, who earlier declared he would seek a nomination on the National Awakening Party‘s (PKB) ticket.

Apart from Saifullah and Khofifah, East Java-chapter Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) chairman La Nyalla Mattalitti is another figure who reportedly plans to run for East Java governor.
