Nia Dinata is an award-winning Indonesian film director known for movies that tackle controversial issues such as homosexuality, migrant workers and polygamy.
Her recent project is a series titled SWITCH, a romantic comedy/drama about two best friends whose lives turn upside down when on one fateful night, they switch bodies.
Nia directs the series using the same approach when making feature films.
“There are many interesting aspects to the development process because this series only has 13 episodes, and the script for all the episodes are done before shooting,” Nia said.
To support her work as a director, Nia relies on a few dependable and handy gadgets along with several applications.
Samsung Galaxy S8
I prefer to use one gadget, but I always have one back-up phone. I do not like to use too many gadgets. I use the back-up phone when I am travelling, like when I go abroad and I need to change my SIM card or when I am in East Indonesia, where some providers cannot deliver mobile signals. So, when I’m travelling, I keep my main phone to keep in touch with my children and family, and I bring the back-up if I need to make any other type of call. My main phone is Samsung Galaxy S8 and for the back-up phone, I use any phone that is available.
I know there are many chatting apps but I think their functions are all the same, so I only use one and that is WhatsApp.
Go Pro
I use Go Pro when I am searching for good spots or locations for my movies. I also like to use it to take pictures or shoot videos underwater.
Twitter and Instagram
I seldom use social media. The main social media platforms that I do use are Twitter and Instagram, mainly to promote my projects or movies.
Viu, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon video streaming applications
I watch Viu to learn about the environment. Other than this, I like watching video streaming applications like Hulu, Amazon and Netflix because my son, who studies in the United States, influences me and now I am used to using these kinds of applications. They are very helpful when I want to start a conversation with my son, especially about his favorite movies.
