resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will wear Sundanese traditional attire at the Pesona Parahyangan Independence Carnival to take place in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday.
“Pak President will attend the Pesona Parahyangan in the traditional attire of Sunda, or West Java, which is currently being prepared by experts on Sundanese culture,” presidential office head Teten Masduki said.
Jokowi is also slated to go to the carnival, which is part of the country’s 72nd Independence Day celebration, in a specially and creatively designed vehicle that will reflect the uniqueness of Indonesia.
West Java, and specifically Bandung, has been chosen to host this year’s carnival because the area is rich in arts and home to creative communities, according to Teten.
The carnival usually has a theme of a special characteristic of a region in order to promote it.
“We want to highlight the special features and strengths that each region has during the Independence [Day] carnival,” said Teten.
He explained that a lake-theme festival was held at Lake Toba in North Sumatra during last year’s Independence Day celebration. “This year, we want to endorse artistic creativity.”
