arate legend Umar Syarief, who lives and runs his dojo in Switzerland, has come home to motivate his juniors competing in the 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
“Make sure your opponent falls, so hit as hard as you can. The judges will never favor the fallen one. This is what I did back in the days,” he said as quoted by Antara on Wednesday.
The 2009 Games gold medalist believes the Indonesian karate team will be able to achieve the goal of winning two gold medals at the event. When asked whether he believed the athletes stood a chance at snatching the golds, Umar mentioned female athletes Srunita Sari Sukatendel and Cok Istri Agung Sunistya Sari.
Srunita snatched a gold in the women’s kumite under 50-kilograms on Tuesday.
“Srunita has proved herself and presented a gold medal. I hope everyone follows her,” he said.
