he illegal levy eradication central task force (Saber Pungli) from the Office of the Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister arrested three officials of Batu city administration, East Java, during a raid for allegedly charging illegal fees on Thursday.
Saber Pungli head of operation Brig. Gen. Widianto Poesoko said the three people, identified only as A., S. and WN, are undergoing questioning and have not yet been officially charged with any crime.
The team confiscated Rp 25 million (US$1,873) and a Grand Livina car from them. The officials are suspected of committing the alleged crime 18 times between May 4 and Aug. 13, 2016 and then 14 times between January and August this year.

Widianto declined to reveal the details of the raid, including the names of the arrestees and the people asked to pay illegal fees.
The Saber Pungli team received a report on alleged extortion by Batu administration officials a month ago and they immediately follow up on the report by coordinating with the Saber Pungli unit in Batu, Widianto said.
“The report was followed up by the Saber Pungli’s Batu unit through surveillance and it was true. So last night the police conducted the raid,” Widianto said at Batu Police headquarters on Friday. (bbs)
