uman rights activist Munir Said Thalib was murdered 13 years ago, but the mystery behind his assassination is far from being resolved.

On Wednesday, activists — including Munir’s widow, Suciwati, and colleague, Usman Hamid — held a press conference once again to remind the government of its promise to find those responsible for Munir’s killing and bring them to justice.

Former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who rose to power about a month after Munir’s death, once said that resolving the case constituted a test case for Indonesia.

During his 10 years in office, three people were charged with the murder, only to then be exonerated by the courts.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, meanwhile, promised to shed light on the mystery surrounding Munir’s death during his 2014 campaign trail. But Jokowi has yet to secure any legal developments that could set him apart from his predecessor, with law enforcement bodies struggling to find any new suspects in the case.

Rather than working together to resolve the case, Yudhoyono and Jokowi recently engaged in finger-pointing over who should settle the case.
