ndonesia’s U-19 team outclassed Brunei Darussalam 8-0 in a one-sided match in the last Group B round-robin match of the AFF Cup on Wednesday at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
The result puts Indonesia in the semifinals, along with Myanmar, who defeated Vietnam 2-1.
Indonesia played aggressively right from the kickoff, needing just 43 seconds to score the first goal thanks to Muhammad Rafli Mursalim.
Egy Maulana Vikri scored another two goals in the 18th and 23rd to widen the gap. Approaching halftime, the Indonesian players became more aggressive, as Witan Sulaeman made another goal to lead 4-0 in the 41st minute.
Kompas reported that Rafli, the national team’s sole striker, made a header to trick Brunei goalie AK Muhd Amirul Hakim PG Zulkarnain a minute later. Rafli scored another goal at the end of the first half to put Indonesia into a 6-0 lead.
In the second half, Witan scored his second goal of the match in the 67th, and substitute Hanis Saghara Putra – replacing an injured Rafli – scored in the 66th minute.
