he Golkar Party was once more in the spotlight on Thursday after one of its young politicians Indra Jaya Piliang, 45, was arrested by the Jakarta Police for consuming narcotics.
Officers from the Jakarta Police’s narcotics directorate held Indra along with two friends, identified as Romi Fernando and M. Ismail Jamani, on Wednesday evening in a raid at a nightclub in Taman Sari, West Jakarta.
They were allegedly in possession of a bong set, a lighter and a used plastic bag while hanging out in one of the nightclub’s rooms.
As police officers did not find any drugs, they brought the suspects to the Jakarta Police headquarters in South Jakarta for urine tests, said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono.
“The three people, whose identity cards state they are employees of private companies, were found to be positive for sabu-sabu use,” said Argo on Thursday in the headquarters, using the local term for crystal methamphetamine.
Argo alleged that Indra admitted to investigators he had used meth for the previous year to ease fatigue and boost his stamina.
On the night Indra and his friends were arrested, the suspects reportedly bought the meth from an unidentified individual, who also provided them with the bong set. “Currently, we are looking for this person, as well as investigating who exactly bought the meth,” said Argo.
