fter testing positive for crystal methamphetamine use, the Golkar Party politician Indra Jaya Piliang, 45, has been sent to the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to undergo rehabilitation.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said that Indra was sent to the BNN instead of being imprisoned, as no drug was found on him at the time of the arrest. “According to the law, we cannot jail someone who is not in possession of drugs, even if the person tests positive for drug use,” Argo said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

Officers from the Jakarta Police’s narcotics directorate held Indra along with his two friends, Romi Fernando and M. Ismail Jamani, on Wednesday evening in a raid at a nightclub in Taman Sari, West Jakarta.

They were allegedly in possession of a bong set, a lighter and a used plastic bag while hanging out in one of the club’s rooms.

The police officers then brought them to the Jakarta Police headquarters in South Jakarta for urine tests, and they were found to be positive for crystal methamphetamine. (vny)
