T

he police have said there was no abduction attempt at the SDN 01 Tanjung Duren state elementary school in West Jakarta, rejecting the testimony of a little girl in a video that went viral on Wednesday.

The girl said she and two of her friends were going out from school to buy snacks when a man came along and tried to kidnap them.

The girl said she managed to run away after biting the would-be abductor’s hand.

The deputy chief of West Jakara Police, Adj. Sr. Comr. Adex Yudiswan, said the police had investigated the girl’s testimony.

The result of the investigation contradicted the girl’s statement, he said.

“From the investigation, we found out that the person who touched the girl was a parking attendant. The girl must have panicked so she told a different story,” Adex said.

Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) commissioner Retno Listyarti said the commission would monitor the students who had fabricated the story and make sure that they will not be bullied by their friends.
