he Law and Human Rights Ministry's regional office in West Sumatra is set to question a warden at Lubuk Sikaping detention facility for an incident in which an inmate went missing after being allowed to leave the facility last week.
"After receiving information that an inmate was allowed to go out for three days and had yet to return, I immediately called the detention center head, finding out it was true," the ministry's regional office head Dwi Prasetyo Santoso told Antara on Friday.
Dwi said the planned questioning would be to probe allegations that the warden, Edi Kasman, had misused his authority by issuing the permit.
Previously, the detention center issued a permit for an inmate named Sudigdo to leave the facility for three days from Sept. 9-11.
The facility allowed Sudigdo, who is serving a three-year and six-month prison sentence for illegal logging, to visit "his wife who had just returned from the haj pilgrimage", said Dwi.
However, the detention center did not inform either the ministry's West Sumatra regional office or the ministry's Directorate General for Correctional Institutions about issuing the permit, Dwi added. (mos/ipa)
