ersonnel from the Jambi Police General Crimes Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) arrested a suspected human trafficker, EH, 31, at Hotel V on Jl. Pattimura in Jambi on Wednesday.

EH allegedly forced young women, aged between 18 and 24 years, into prostitution.

The trafficking victims come from various backgrounds. It was discovered during the investigation that eight of the total victims the police questioned were students and private workers.

“The suspect said he applied fees of between Rp 1 million [US$75.39] and Rp 1.5 million per client,” Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Manurung of Ditreskrimum told journalists on Saturday.

He said the police would continue to investigate the case. It is suspected that many other women fell victim to EH’s trafficking schemes, he went on to say.

“The suspect is charged with Article 2 (1) and Article 13 of Law No. 21/2017 on human trafficking,” said Manurung. (ebf)
