he Jakarta Police have arrested a man, identified only as TK, for alleged fraud against 51 contract teachers, whom he reportedly promised civil servant positions to at a price.
According to the police, TK was assisted by SLH and HRLN.
TK allegedly claimed to be able to secure positions at the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry. He reportedly amassed up to Rp 1.8 billion (US$136,000) from the 51 victims.
“TK promised a contract teacher who did not pass the selection process in 2013 a civil servant position for Rp 60 million,” police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.
Argo further said that in 2014, contract teachers from Jakarta, Brebes in Central Java and Sumedang in West Java were made offers and filled out applications for civil servant positions.
They reportedly realized they were deceived when TK said the announcement on employee intake would be made through print media and the internet by the end of April 2014. However, as of May that year, no such announcements had been made.
