ustralian telecommunications company Telstra has unveiled Liberate, an app that integrates the functions of fixed-line phones into mobile phones, so that a call to a fixed line can be answered on a mobile phone.

"If you are on a mobile phone and someone calls your office phone, it will appear on your mobile phone. If you are in the office, you can transfer the call to your office devices without disrupting the conversation," Telstra group executive of global enterprise and services Brendon Riley said on Wednesday during Telstra's Vantage event in Melbourne.

Telstra global applications director Gianpaolo Carraro said that if a Liberate user made a call to another device, it would appear as their office number on the receiver's phone.

Users can switch between their office and private number profiles by the press of a button on Liberate. The mobile app is available for both Android and iOS, said Carraro.

He added that Liberate could do what office desk phones could do, such as transferring calls between corporate numbers.

However, he added that Liberate currently operated only with Telstra's fixed-line and mobile phone numbers. In order to bring Liberate to other countries where Telstra was not operating, Carraro said,  "...we can work with the local operators." (bbn)
