The Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) expects to book Rp 386
he Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) expects to book Rp 386.7 billion (US$ 29.02 million) in transactions during the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in East Java’s capital Surabaya.
Gaikindo executive Rizwan Alamsyah said the organizer did not set a high target this year, hoping the sales of the four-day event would be at least the same as last year’s.
“At least [the result] should be the same as the figure of sales in GIIAS last year. We don’t want to aim high for all vehicles in the current climate,” said Rizwan on Friday.
The Surabaya autoshow managed to book sales of 1,392 passenger and commercial cars in the past year, up 14.2 percent from 2015.
Rizwan further said the autoshow target was in line with domestic four-wheeler sales, which rose slightly by 3.5 percent year-on-year in the January-August period.
“[Sales growth] is not that good, but still higher compared to last year’s figures,” he said.
East Java is the second-largest automobile market in Indonesia with a 7 percent contribution to domestic car sales.
