eputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno has said he has plans to turn Jakarta into a scenic city so it could inspire residents to snap more pictures for popular photo-sharing app Instagram.
Sandiaga said that today, people had difficulties finding spots where they could take Instagram-worthy photos.
"I have to ask you, what are places in Jakarta that could be made Instagram-ready? People today like to find beautiful locations for their Instagram updates," Sandiaga said as quoted by kompas.com.
Sandiaga said he planned to build public transportation systems that would make it easy for tourists to reach historical sites including Istiqlal Mosque and Jl. Proklamasi in Central Jakarta.
He said these were spots that tourists could use as backgrounds in their Instagram shots.
"Istiqlal mosque is beautiful but people have problems finding the best angles as it is covered by shrubs and fences," he said.
On the campaign trail last year, Sandiaga often made headlines for proposing a program called One District, One Center of Entrepreneurship (OK OCE).
Jakarta Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade Agency has set aside Rp 1.2 billion (US$90,000) to pay for the OK-OCE program.
