igh-ranking Jakarta Police officers visited Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman Ma’ruf Amin in Koja, North Jakarta, two days before another planned rally.
Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Purwadi went to Ma’ruf’s home on Wednesday morning along with spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono, North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Dwiyono and Koja Police chief Comr. Supriyanto.
"The deputy chief and other officers came for a silaturahmi [friendly gathering] and to eat breakfast together,” Ma’ruf told kompas.com.
He said that on the occasion, the officials and Ma’ruf discussed security in Jakarta and agreed to maintain it together.
A group of people calling themselves Alumni 212, after a group that participated in a massive rally in Jakarta on Dec. 2 to demand the prosecution of then Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama for blasphemy last year, plan to hold a rally on Friday outside the House of Representatives.
The protestors will demand the House reject Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 2/2017 on mass organizations. They will also protest against what they claim is the resurrection of the Indonesian Communist Party. (agn)
