LN president director Sofyan Basir has denied that the state-owned electricity company was facing any problems in implementing the government's 35,000-megawatt power generation project by 2019, and that it was ready to move forward with the project, as reported by tribunnews.com on Friday.
“There is no problem. We are ready to implement the 35,000 MW power project. We will implement the program based on the electricity demand,” Sofyan said in response to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati’s letter to Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan on the matter.
In her letter dated Sept. 19, Sri Mulyani said the government needed to make adjustments with regard to PLN's capability to finance the planned project. She said PLN was financially weak, because it had to repay debts that would leave it with limited funds to invest in the power generation project.
