he insurance company PT Asuransi Allianz Life Indonesia has denied refusing to reimburse medical expenses of its clients, saying that there were “irregular patterns” in the claims.

In a press release received by The Jakarta Post on Monday night, the insurance company said it had requested further clarification from the clients in the form of copies of their medical records after finding "irregular patterns in the claims submitted within a relatively short period."

"This is a necessary step in the claim-clarification process," the release said.

Previously, Alvin Lim, the lawyer who represents Ifranius Algadri and Indah Goena Nanda, the company's clients, said that Allianz's request for the submission of the complete medical records was not mentioned in the policy book.

The Jakarta Police have named two former executives of the company, Joachim Wessling and Yuliana Firmansyah, as suspects and accused them of violating the 1999 Consumer Protection Law for allegedly breaching contracts with the two customers by refusing to reimburse the clients’ medical expenses.

The police have also issued travel bans for the executives. The travel bans took effect on Sept 28 and will last for 20 days.

The police had scheduled questioning former claims manager Yuliana on Oct. 4 and former president director Wessling next week.

Through its release, the company also said that it would stand by its former executives and would be ready to help them by providing legal support. (rdi)
