akarta is bracing for potential landslides and floods as rains are expected to soak the city this week. People living on riverbanks are vulnerable to such disasters.
The latest landslide occurred in Manggarai, South Jakarta, on the Ciliwung riverbank, on Saturday afternoon, sweeping away five houses and displacing eight families.
According to a report by the South Jakarta Disaster Management Agency, the landslide was triggered by an overflowing river.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the landslides.
Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Jakarta) operations head Jupan R. S. Tampubolon said his side had evacuated the residents and cleaned the area.
“We have also urged the residents not to build houses on riverbanks,” he said on Sunday, adding that downpours had caused areas in South Jakarta to become prone to landslides.
South Jakarta Social Affairs Agency head Mursidin said his side had sent assistance in the form of food, clothing and blankets to the affected residents.
