he police in Bekasi, West Java, have captured and killed suspected members of a violent gang of armed robbers, which had plagued Cikarang for the last three months.
The police shot dead two of the six members of the gang, allegedly while the suspects were resisting arrest.
“Their target of operations focused on the industrial area. Our Cobra team has managed to stop them,” Bekasi Police chief Sr. Comr. Asep Adi Saputra said at the National Police Hospital in Kramatjati in East Jakarta on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com. He referred to a team specifically formed to combat street crime.
He said the criminals were recidivists, who had frequently been jailed for numerous street crimes in many areas outside Bekasi, such as Tangerang in Banten. In recent months, they had been involved in at least 13 crimes, Asep added.
“Tangerang and Bekasi share some similarities. They targeted industrial areas. After closely observing their targets, they moved to threaten security guards with guns,” he said. (fac)
