A

train derailment during a morning rush hour at the Manggarai Railway Station in South Jakarta brought chaos to stations along the Jakarta-Bogor line on Tuesday.

A train connecting Muara Angke and Bogor, West Java, came off the tracks at one of Jakarta's biggest transportation hub, blocking trains from entering the station and resulted in thousands of passengers being stranded on a number of stations.

According to one passenger, Taufik Nurhidayat, who was traveling on the train said that some of panicked  passengers jumped out of the window to safety.

“Many passengers panicked seeing that the derailed carriage almost tipped over. Many passengers then opted to get off the train and walked back to Manggarai Station,” he told The Jakarta Post.

Taufik said he opted to take a train back to Tebet to continue his journey on motorcycle taxi (ojeg).

“I can see that passengers were stuck at stations along the Bogor-Kota, Bogor-Tanah Abang lines,” he said.

PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) apologized for the incident that occurred at 7.40 a.m.

PT KCI said that it has evacuated passengers and advised commuters to take trains departed from the nearby Jatinegara Station, or taking alternative transportation mode .
