Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said she is concerned about security and the geopolitical situation in North Korea.
inance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has said she is more concerned about security and the geopolitical situation in North Korea than the United States and its central bank's policy.
"What's happening in North Korea is worrying me more because it's creating a new environment for us now," she said in her remarks during the launch of the World Bank's Indonesia Economic Quarterly report on Tuesday.
Asia was perhaps the only region in the world that enjoyed high economic growth supported by vibrant purchasing power, she said, adding that its peaceful situation was another positive factor.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) regional economic outlook issued in May projected that the Asia-Pacific region will grow by around 5.5 percent this year, higher than the global growth projection of 3.5 percent.
"That [the geopolitical situation] will totally change and will make Asia looks like other regions in terms of volatility and security issues," Sri Mulyani said.
The political situation in the Korean Peninsula has intensified in recent days as a result of North Korea's nuclear weapons tests. (bbn)
