Police in Bogor, West Java, have arrested three men for allegedly distributing counterfeit money.
The men mostly used the counterfeit money while shopping in the evening, said Depok Police spokesperson Adj. Comr. Sutrisno.
The three men, identified as Bayu Saputra, 22, Achmad Agus Ardian, 36, and Hari Hariyanto aka Ombeng, 30, were arrested after Bayu shopped at a grocery store on Jl. Argo Raya in Bojong Gede, Bogor regency, on Monday evening.
"The shop owner, Dedi Rachmat, was suspicious with the Rp 50,000 [US$3.7] bill paid by Bayu," said Sutrisno on Tuesday.
Dedi reported it to the police, who then arrested Bayu within hours.
After questioning the suspect, the police arrested Achmad and Hari as they were shopping at a grocery store on Jl. Raya Bambu Kuning, also in Bojong Gede.
"The suspects committed the actions in the evening so that the counterfeit cash would not be recognized," said Sutrisno as quoted by kompas.com.
He further said that following a police raid on their houses, the officials seized 13 Rp 50,000 banknotes, five S$10,000 banknotes and ten bundles of Euros amounting to €1 million.
The suspects said they bought the counterfeit money from a man identified only as A, who the police were searching for, he added. (agn)
