he Central Jakarta District Court postponed on Wednesday a hearing that was to announce a decision in a class-action lawsuit filed by Bukit Duri residents over eviction compensation as the judges needed more time to draft a final decision.
Presiding judge Mas'ud and judge Hariono did not attend the hearing.
"We apologize on behalf of the judges. We don't want to make a quick decision," judge Agustinus Setya Wahyu told the residents.
Both sides agreed to adjourn the hearing until Oct. 25.
Dozens of Bukit Duri residents had gathered at the court from 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Resident Santi Napitupulu, 37, said she was disappointed by the postponement.
In the lawsuit, which was filed with the court on May 10, 2016, Bukit Duri residents demanded the Jakarta administration and other relevant institutions pay Rp 1.17 trillion (US$86.60 million) as compensation for their evictions during the Ciliwung River normalization project last year. (yon)
