he Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is hoping to meet its target of procuring 10,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
The ministry’s director general for new and renewable energy Rida Mulyana said Wednesday that a major contributor to renewable energy output would be the wind power plant in Sidrap, South Sulawesi.
Built with a US$ 150 million investment, the plant is set to become the largest wind power facility in Indonesia and begin full operation early next year.
The power plant will use 30 wind turbines, each having a capacity of 2.5 MW.
“TKDN [local content] at the power plant has reached almost 40 percent,” Rida said, referring to a significant portion of locally-sourced components.
Rida added the ministry was eyeing other locations for its next wind power plant, such as in Jeneponto, South Sulawesi, Yogyakarta and Sukabumi, West Java.
Indonesia has great potential in developing wind power, with output estimated to reach up to 1.6 gigawatts, he added.
