ustralian national Joshua James Baker, 32, had a brief taste of freedom after he allegedly tried to escape detention for reportedly carrying 28.02 grams of marijuana mixed with tobacco and 37 diazepam pills.
He was arrested at Ngurah Rai International Airport on Sunday by Custom and Excise personnel upon his arrival from Bangkok.
Baker was handed over to the police the next day and taken to Bali Police headquarters for interrogation.
Officers later took him to Bhayangkara Hospital for medical tests and observation. However, he escaped the hospital by climbing through a bathroom ventilation window.
Baker’s escape ended 10 hours later after police caught him at a luxury hotel in the Canggu Beach area in North Kuta.
“He was caught while having lunch at the hotel restaurant,” deputy director of the Bali Police’s Narcotic Directorate, Adj. Sr. Comr. Sudjarwoko, said on Wednesday.
“In narcotics cases, we have [72 hours] to collect evidence, which could be extended by another [72 hours].”
