he Police on Wednesday arrested Singaporean Mohammad Asri Bin Sapuan, 46, for allegedly molesting three boys aged 12, 15 and 16 in Batam, Riau Islands, between Sept. 16 to 24.
The boys were students at Asri’s studio gallery. Police suspected the gallery existed only as a way to woo the boys.
The police said the arrest was triggered by one of the victims’ parents who reported the incident after he looked at the messages his son had received from Asri.
“The victims were sodomized several times by [the suspect]. He also offered them money,” Batam, Rempang and Gelang Police chief Sr. Com. Hengky, told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
Asri, who had overstayed for three years in Batam, told the police he was a freelancer who worked as a driver and artist.
If found guilty, Asri would face a minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and Rp 5 billion (US$370,000) in fines, as stipulated under the Child Protection Law.
