uthorities at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, seized what they believed to be 15 detonators on Monday evening.

Turah Ajiari, the communication and legal section head of airport operator Angkasa Pura I, said Tuesday that the detonators were to be sent to Toli-toli, Central Sulawesi.

He said the items had been detected through an X-ray.

“We checked them and found they were detonators,” Turah said, adding that the items had been handed over to the police.

The packages had been sent to Makassar from Malang, East Java.

Chief detective at the Maros Police in South Sulawesi, Adj. Comr. Jufri Natsir, said the police were investigating whether the detonators were to be used for terrorist activities.  

“We have involved the bomb squad and the police’s Mobile Brigade to examine the detonators,” he said, adding that the Maros Police were coordinating with the East Java Police and the South Sulawesi Police. (bbs)
