P

edestrians were told to stay away from the Jakarta Police headquarters on Wednesday morning after two suspicious bags were found at its entrance, sparking a bomb scare.

The police’s bomb squad, however, have confirmed that the bags did not contain explosives.

Earlier that morning, a police officer spotted an unclaimed black suitcase and a blue backpack near the headquarters' entrance, suspecting they may contain bombs.

He reported his findings to the Jakarta Police's bomb-disposal squad (jibom), which quickly secured the area. After a thorough investigation, the squad found that the bags contained clothes and books.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said the police were still looking for the owner of the bags.

The police have questioned one witness, a Malaysian citizen, about the incident. (ahw)
