he government is preparing to appoint a successor for its director general for taxation Ken Dwijugiasteadi, who will retire in December.
The Finance Ministry’s secretary general Hadiyanto said there were two available mechanisms to replace the outgoing high-ranking official: open bidding for the post or rotating one of the current top echelon members at the ministry to helm the taxation office.
“The Finance Minister [Sri Mulyani Indrawati] is still mulling over the available options to choose the next director general for taxation,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday. “The option for job rotation is still on the table,” he said, adding that this option would take a relatively shorter amount of time compared to an open bidding process.
The tax director’s post is seen as a vital position as the government continues its tax reform efforts in a bid to increase the ratio of its tax revenue to its gross domestic product (GDP).
