The government plans to require app-based ride-hailing services to take part in insurance programs.
The requirement is stipulated in the draft of a revised transportation ministerial decree that is expected to be issued on Nov. 1, following a decision made by the Supreme Court in August to annul several articles of Transportation Ministerial Regulation No. 26/2016 on online ride-hailing operators.
“There are a number of additional articles to be included in the revised regulation, like the requirement to take part in an insurance [program],” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said on Monday as reported by Antara.
Other articles include the requirement for drivers to have public transportation driving licenses, installing meters in vehicles and for operators to provide digital dashboard access to the Information and Technology Ministry, Land Road Directorate General and the local governments.
In addition, all ride-hailing cars will need to attach an ASK (specific public transport) sticker to their windshield, while passenger-side windows will be required to display information about the vehicle’s operational zone, the company’s name and the Transportation Ministry’s logo. (bbn)
