ndonesian shuttler pairs are seeking a way to snatch at least a Denmark Open Super Series title this year from four spots – all in the doubles sectors.

Four pairs — two in the men’s doubles, one in the women’s doubles and another in the mixed doubles — secured quarterfinal places on Thursday.

World number one pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon would fight on to preserve their top spot at the Odense tournament’s quarterfinal match on early Saturday Jakarta time.

In the quarters, second seeds Kevin and Marcus, affectionately nicknamed “Minions” by their fans, were set to play against non-seeded duo Huang Kaixiang and Wang Yilyu of China.

The Indonesians earned their quarterfinal spot after thrashing Danes Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard 21-14, 21-16 within 30 minutes in Thursday’s second round.

“We enjoyed the [second round’s] match. Our opponents were already under pressure, so we kept on pressing them. However, their strong smashes were quite troubling,” said Kevin, who with Marcus won the Japan Open, Malaysia Open, India Open and All England Open this year.

Facing Huang and Wang, Kevin said: “We need to play safe. Don’t make too many errors, stay focused and always be ready to fight back.”

In another men’s doubles, world number eight pair Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwardi are set to face world number four duo Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen of China in the quarters.

Angga and Ricky defeated Taiwanese pair Chen Hung Ling and Wang Chi-Lin 21-19, 21-19 on Thursday, while Li and Liu outclassed South Koreans Chung Eui Seok and Kim Dukyoung 21-19, 17-21, 21-17.

In the women’s doubles, Rizki Amelia Pradipta and Della Destiara Haris made an astonishing move into the quarterfinals as they stunned world number two pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China 21-23, 21-18, 21-10.

Keeping their patience was key to the sweet surprise, said Rizki, who is ranked 98th in the world with Della.

In the quarters, Rizki and Della were scheduled to play six seeds Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto of Japan.

Meanwhile, Indonesian favorites Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, third seeds in mixed doubles at the tournament, were set to battle against fifth seeds Zhang Nan and Li Yinhui of China.
