akarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno is planning to hold a shoemaking competition for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in search of the most appropriate and comfortable footwear for work.

Sandiaga is looking for "formal shoes that can be used for running, blusukan [impromptu visits], making rounds to a lot of places, including muddy areas", kompas.com quoted him as saying on Tuesday.

The shoes should be made in accordance with Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 23/2016 on Uniforms, he said.

Sandiaga, who has not said when the contest would be held, added that he wished the competition to encourage MSEs to produce office and business shoes.

Since his inauguration on Oct. 16, Sandiaga has repeatedly worn running shoes to the office, which is not in keeping with the prevailing gubernatorial regulations.

Sandiaga said running shoes were most comfortable for the high level of activity his job demanded.

He appeared to be wearing formal footwear for the first time on Tuesday. (cal)
